Press release for a SaaS or software launch: what to say about price, security and AI, and when to publish

In short

A software launch press release is a dated public statement that a product is available: what it does, who it is for, what it costs, where to try it and what security and data commitments come with it. Buyers can check the facts you state against it, and an assistant can cite a page it can read. Publish it when the product, its pricing page and its security page are live, and word every claim so it can be backed up.

Press release for a SaaS or software launch. In G2’s March 2026 survey of 1,076 B2B software buyers, 51% start research with an AI chatbot more often than with Google. In TrustRadius’s January 2026 survey, 94% of buyers who used AI fact-check its answers at least sometimes, and transparent pricing has been buyers’ number one wish for vendors four years running. Our own launch release was live on USA Today 39 minutes after submission. State the price, word SOC 2 as the auditor’s report does, and back every AI claim with a test.
A software launch release at a glance: how buyers research, and what to state.

Why a software launch needs a public record

About half of surveyed software buyers start with an AI chatbot. In G2’s March 2026 survey of 1,076 B2B software decision makers, 51% said they start research with an AI chatbot more often than with Google (29% in April 2025), ChatGPT remained the dominant chatbot for software research (63%), and 69% had chosen a different vendor than they first planned because of chatbot guidance. G2 is a review site that sells to vendors, so read the figures as its own survey. TrustRadius’s January 2026 survey of 1,862 technology buyers found that 63% used AI during their purchase and that 94% of those who did fact-check what it told them at least some of the time; Forrester’s Buyers’ Journey Survey of nearly 18,000 business buyers, fielded in 2025, found 94% use AI during buying.

An assistant answers from pages it can read, and buyers check those answers against sources. A release on a news site is one such source: dated, attributable and findable. On 4 November 2026, in one answer to a brand-name question, ChatGPT answered “What is Vokolla?” by citing a newspaper page that carried our release. TrustRadius also reports that transparent pricing has been buyers’ number one wish-list item for vendors four years running, so put the price, or the pricing model, in the release.

Journalists use releases for story ideas: in Cision’s 2026 survey of 1,899 journalists, 66% named PR-provided content as the source they most often rely on for story ideas, and 24% want PR professionals to send more product samples or demos (Cision sells PR software).

When to publish

Publish when the product can be tried, with the pricing page and the security page already live. A release that says “available now” and sends readers to a sign-up wall is the one buyers and assistants cannot check. Give reviewers access before launch: 45% of Cision’s journalists say they want more embargoed or early-access information. If you offer one reporter an early look, set the release to go live no earlier than their story.

If you need a fixed date, our release form lets you schedule the release at least 48 hours after you submit; editors review first and then schedule it. Without a set time it goes out after editor review.

Make the pages readable by the assistants you want to reach. OpenAI documents OAI-SearchBot as the crawler for ChatGPT’s search features, separate from GPTBot, and Perplexity documents PerplexityBot for its search results; both can be allowed or blocked in robots.txt. Google says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode. Our guide to press releases and AI search covers the crawlers.

A release is not a Show HN. Hacker News’s own guidelines say not to post landing pages or sign-up pages, and to make it easy for people to try the product. If you launch there, post the working product.

L minus 4 weeks or morePricing page, security page and product page live; sitemap submitted; crawlers you want allowed in robots.txt.
L minus 1 to 2 weeksEarly access for reviewers under an agreed embargo; collect a customer quote with written permission.
L minus 2 days or moreSubmit; schedule the publishing time if you need a fixed date.
Launch dayRelease live; product open to try; email journalists the link in the morning.
L plus 1 weekOne follow-up to journalists and trial users, with the release link.

What to write: price, security and AI claims

We read six 2026 PR Newswire software releases: four launches (Featured, Actia AI, Crogl, SmallBiz.ai) and two SOC 2 announcements (Humanix, Parseur). None carried a named customer quote; the two SOC 2 releases named the auditor; all four launches stated a price or pricing model (Featured: usage-based; Actia: flat monthly fees; Crogl: free), but only SmallBiz.ai gave dollar amounts. That is our reading of six releases, not a statistic, and it is where a release can be more useful than most: say what it costs and who audited what.

Security wording needs care. The AICPA describes SOC 2 as an independent examination by a licensed CPA whose report includes an opinion on the design and operating effectiveness of controls. Both SOC 2 releases we read put “compliance” in the headline, though their text names the examining firm. The form that matches the AICPA’s own words is “completed a SOC 2 Type II examination by [auditor], covering [period], with an unqualified opinion; report available under NDA”. Avoid “SOC 2 certified”. ISO 27001 is a different thing, a certificate: name the certification body, the scope and the expiry date.

AI claims need evidence at the time you make them. In April 2025 the US Federal Trade Commission announced an order requiring Workado to hold “competent and reliable evidence” for its AI detection claims: it had advertised 98 percent accuracy, and independent testing found 53 percent on general content. Write what you measured, on what data and when, and leave out “first”, “best” and “human-level” unless you can show them. We found no official guidance on using customer names or logos, so get written permission before you quote or name a customer.

The fictional examples below use an invented product, Ledgerleaf. The details are made up.

Wording that holds up for a software launch release. Price: write the price or pricing model, plans and the trial; avoid affordable or contact us. SOC 2: write that you completed a SOC 2 Type II examination by a named auditor for a stated period, with the report under NDA; avoid saying SOC 2 certified without an auditor or period. AI accuracy: write what you tested, on what data and on what date; avoid an accuracy percentage with no test. Customers: write a named quote with written permission; avoid a name or logo without permission.

Structured data for the launch page

Google’s SoftwareApplication structured data requires a name, an offers.price and one of aggregateRating or review; for a free product, set the price to 0. A new product with no reviews yet cannot honestly mark up a rating, so do not invent one. The release and the product page should state the same price, the same name and the same availability.

Which package to choose, and why

Choose by where your buyers and reviewers look. Brand Starter at US$69 puts the release on 300+ outlets, including openPR and 25 city news sites. Global Reach at US$129 adds newspaper and TV-station finance pages. For a launch aimed at the US market, Premium Media at US$379 adds AP News, USA Today, Barchart and StreetInsider; for a launch in several markets, Global Impact at US$659 reaches 20+ high-traffic outlets.

Every price is on the pricing page, the media list names the outlets in each package, and our comparison reads other services’ own published prices and dates.

How to use the release afterwards

Send people to one page that states the same facts as the product.

  • A Press or News page on the product site with the release link and the date, linked from the footer and the security page.
  • The email to trial users and prospects: one line with what launched and where it is published.
  • Your sales deck and security questionnaire responses: the release link and the auditor’s name.
  • LinkedIn, from the company page and from the person quoted.
  • A monthly check: ask ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Perplexity what your product is and what it costs, and save the answers with the dates; our AI search guide gives the questions.
  • Link text: your brand name or web address, not a keyword phrase.

The checklist

Before you submit, check these seven points. How to write a press release covers the structure.

  • Is the product live, with a pricing page and a security page?
  • Does the first sentence say what it does, who it is for, where to try it and what it costs?
  • Is the SOC 2 claim worded as the auditor’s report says?
  • Is every AI performance claim backed by a test you can describe?
  • Do you have written permission for any customer name or quote?
  • Do the price, name and availability match the product page?
  • Is the publishing time, and any embargo, agreed?
Seven checks before submitting a software launch release: the product is live with pricing and security pages; the first sentence says what it does, for whom, where to try it and the price; the SOC 2 or ISO wording matches the auditor’s report, with auditor, scope and period; every AI claim is backed by a test you can describe; you have written permission for customer names and quotes; price, name and availability match the product page; the publishing time and any embargo are agreed.

A launch of our own

Our own launch release was live on USA Today 39 minutes after submission on 23 October 2026. By 4 November both of our USA Today release pages were in Google’s index, and a Bing search for “Vokolla” showed them second and fourth. Perplexity’s answer to “What are the best press release distribution services in 2026?” cited a press release syndicated on Yahoo Finance, so assistants do cite syndicated releases. Each is one search or one answer, so read them as what happened to us. See how long distribution takes.

Publish with Vokolla

Vokolla shows one public price per release, from US$69, with no quote, sales call or subscription. You write the release or draft it with the Vokolla AI assistant, choose the package, pay online and get a report with every live link, and an editor reviews each release before it goes out. You can try it first with one free release every 30 days; every package is on the pricing page.

Questions people ask

Should a SaaS launch release include pricing?

Yes, the price or the pricing model. TrustRadius reports that transparent pricing has been buyers’ number one wish-list item for vendors four years running.

How should I word a SOC 2 claim?

The AICPA describes SOC 2 as an independent examination whose report includes an opinion. Write that you completed a SOC 2 Type II examination, name the auditor, the scope and the period, and say the report is available under NDA.

Can I say my AI product is “95% accurate”?

Only if you can show the test. The FTC’s 2025 Workado order shows what happens when an accuracy claim cannot be backed: the company advertised 98 percent and independent testing found 53 percent.

Is a press release the same as a Show HN or Product Hunt launch?

No. Show HN asks for a working product people can try, not a landing page. A release is a dated page on a news site for buyers and journalists who check the company.

Will a release get my product into ChatGPT answers?

We cannot promise that. Assistants answer from pages they can read; a release is one dated, attributable page. Our own check showed ChatGPT citing a newspaper page that carried our release.
